This year, we hosted our first ever No Pens Day alongside Speech and Language UK. No Pens Day is exactly how it sounds, it's a full day of talking and listening! Why did we do it? To encourage oracy throughout the school and to celebrate those who may have difficulties with speech. Classes took part in various drama, debate, speech, discussion and oracy activities throughout the year. Pupils wore bright colours so they could shine as loud as their voices, and we collected money to donate to Speech and Language UK. Here are a few of the favourite activities from the day:
Year 2 have been learning about the different ways flowers are used in Art, they have been exploring different themes, colours, representations and have been using various mediums to create sketches and paintings.
It is the time of the year when we are thinking about Christmas cards!
Year 2 have been working really hard in Maths, using various manipulatives to add two 2-digit numbers across 10. They have been counting, calculating, exchanging and checking, allowing them to be marvellous mathematicians.
This week is children’s grief awareness week (16 November-23 November). A global day designed to help us all become more aware of the needs of grieving children.
John McDonnell the MP for Hayes and Harlington visited William Byrd on the 17th November 2023.
On Friday 17th November William Byrd wore their spots, Pudsey onesies, t-shirts and dresses to support and fundraise for BBC Children in Need. The BBC Children in Need charity raises money to change the lives of disadvantaged children and young people nationwide.
Children across the school learnt about the charity and took part in various Pudsey activities throughout the day, which they all enjoyed.
Many children in KS2 participated in the Times Tables Rockstars competition 'England Rocks' between 14th - 16th November.
We are pleased to announce that WIlliam Byrd placed 283rd out of over 4,000 schools and class 6 Angelou placed an incredible 76th out of over 30,000 classes! Well done!
Today the Young Carers group discussed the different acts of kindness they do and the impact this has on the people they care for.
We marked the start of Anti-Bullying week this year with Odd Socks Day on Monday 13 November.
Children and staff were invited to come to school wearing odd socks to celebrate their individuality and what makes them all unique.
This year the event focusses on the importance of acts of kindness, starting with 'One Kind Word'.
On Friday 10th November we celebrated Diwali, the festival of lights, at our school. Children and staff came to school wearing their Diwali/party clothes, and they looked fantastic.
