Year 6 spent an exciting afternoon completing the Heathrow Coding Challenge led by Spark! Children applied their coding and maths skills to a range of challenges and were encouraged to develop their interpersonal and teamwork skills.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to our Macmillan Coffee Morning. It was lovely to see so many parents, and members of the community enjoying some cake and coffee over a friendly chat. Thank you to everyone who generously donated all the fabulous cakes to sell.
Year 4 had a fun and educational visit to the British Museum where they saw some amazing Egyptian artefacts. The children most enjoyed seeing the mummies, the stone heads of the pharaohs and learning about the hieroglyphs.
We enjoyed a visit from the UK Parliament Outreach Service who delivered a fun, interactive assembly to our Key Stage 2 children and taught them all about our democracy and Parliament's role within it. By the end of the assembly, children had a good understanding of how Parliament works, the role of their MP and members of the House of Lords.
We held our own democratic elections in school last week and our newly-appointed Members of School Parliament attended a special ‘laws and debating’ workshop after the assembly where they practised the skills of being a politician and role played being in the House of Commons!

We love reading so much at William Byrd that we have even decorated our classroom doors based on our favourite books. All classes did a fantastic job and we look forward to announcing our winner soon. Good luck to everyone!
We are delighted to be working with our friends at Balfour Beatty and Heathrow again this year to offer the Jason Robinson Sports Stars programme to our Year 3 children. To launch the programme, we welcomed a very special visitor to our school who delivered an inspirational assembly and shared his challenges and achievements with the children. Martin Tye is a former Lance Corporal in the Royal Logistical Corps who has overcome the serious, life-changing injuries he suffered whilst serving in Afghanistan and is now a World-Record-holding strongman and sportsman who competed in the Invictus Games in 2017 and 2018 where he won 11 medals in various events. His speech really inspired the children to get active and try new sports and they learnt about the importance of resilience and determination.
As part of our school reading focus, we celebrated Roald Dahl Day starting a special Roald Dahl assembly where the children learnt about the life of Roald Dahl and his writing. During the day the children got involved in various activities in their classes and produced some amazing pieces of writing around their favourite Roald Dahl story book.
We are so pleased to announce we have been awarded £5670 by the Hillingdon Community Trust funded by Heathrow Airport Limited for our STEM room "The Zone".
Year 6 prom had their prom on Thursday 18th July and it was an evening filled with smiles, laughter and a few tears! It was a true pleasure for staff to spend the evening with the children and we wish them all the very best for the next stage in their journey.
A huge thank you to all involved in making the evening such a success. The photos below provide a snapshot of this memorable event.
The whole school including all our staff enjoyed a school picnic on Wednesday 17th July. Children had a fun time relaxing and playing in the sun.
Year 6 Production took place on Monday 15th July and Tuesday 16th July. Our Year 6 children did a fantastic rendition of 'What a Knight'. Well done to the whole of Year 6 - you are all superstars! Thank you to everyone who was able to attend.
