This year, Reception have developed a new approach to the learning environment. Following an ethos of child-centred learning, we have moved away from adult-led activities and instead facilitate and support the children in accessing materials and resources, empowering to lead their own learning.

The children in Reception are very excited about the arrival of the William Bear. William the bear is the newest member of each Reception class. He goes home with the Superstars of the day and treats them to some hot chocolate and a special bed time story. Children eagerly await the daily reveal of who will earn this special surprise and try really hard to be the Superstar every day.
This year Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated on Monday 2 May across the UK and in parts of the world. To celebrate the occasion in school we invited our children to come to school dressed up in their Eid/party clothes on Friday 6 May.
Our children along with some of our staff dressed up in their fabulous celebration clothes and looked fantastic!
We would like to wish all our families and friends, that were celebrating, a very happy Eid!
Year 6 visited Barnhill Academy to join Belmore Primary Academy for an Energy Live Science event!
On Friday 22nd April, Year 4 visited the River and Rowing Museum in Henley on Thames.
We had a great week during poetry week! Each class were able to learn about a different poet each day and explored a range of styles and themes.
In Year 5, we have been studying Emperor Penguins and the book 'Zoo' by Anthony Browne for writing this half-term. Initially, we learnt facts about Emperor Penguins understanding how they have adapted to live in such harsh climates.
During this half-term, our Reception children went on a welly walk around the school field for their new project 'Puddles and Rainbows'.
William Byrd celebrated Red Nose Day and dressed up in red to raise money for Comic Relief on Friday 18 March.
We celebrated World Book Day the whole week this year. Throughout the week children took part in many fun activities that really promoted a love for books not just for pleasure but for purpose too. The whole school including the staff got dressed up in their favourite book characters on the Thursday 3rd March, World Book Day, and everyone looked great!

In year 6 we have been investigating our circulatory system and have conducted investigations comparing our resting heart rate to our heart rate after we did exercise. We also investigated the differences in blood flow when the circumference of our blood vessels increased/decreased. We saw that the wider our blood vessels (less clogged!) the easier it was for our heart to pump blood around our body.
A big thank you to all the kitchen staff for their hard work in making a delicious Christmas lunch for everyone. On the menu we had; turkey/vegetable parcel, potatoes, peas, carrots, stuffing with plenty of gravy with chocolate cake for dessert.
