At William Byrd, our goal is to expose children to a wide variety of careers and job based skills to ensure that they have the adequate information and experiences to prepare them for the choices they will make in the next stages of their education in life. This project was started through our partnership with PFAEY (preparing for adulthood from the early years). Our approach to careers education is multi-tiered:

• Explicit teaching about careers and educational pathways through our PSHRE lessons
• Explicit links to careers on all of our educational trips and visits
• Explicit links to careers in our foundation subjects
• Enterprise opportunities, internally and through the Heathrow B.E.E. programme
• A week long careers week in Summer 2 with career visitors, application skills and money management workshops

The Primary Inspiring Careers Award has been developed by Education Development Trust. Award has been designed to recognise excellence in primary careers education where pupils are offered inspiring and exciting insights into the world of work and are provided with regular opportunities to develop their career understanding and skill.
