Chicks in Year 2

Year 2 have been studying about animals, lifecycles and habitats in Science this half term and have had the most amazing experience in homing 10 chicks for 10 days.

The fertilised eggs arrived where they were kept in an incubator until they began to hatch, the children observed very carefully and were able to watch some of the eggs hatch into chicks. When the chicks were 24 hours old, they were moved into the brooder box. The children observed carefully and monitored the progress the chicks made over the days, recognising what they needed in order to grow and survive. The children were able to hold and feed the chicks. They named each individual chick- even if they couldn’t keep track when they were running around. The children had a wonderful experience and learnt a lot, so be sure to ask them lots of questions about their experience and what they learnt.
